Difficulty

Difficulty is a measure of how difficult it is to find a valid hash below a given target.  Difficulty increases when the target decreases, and decreases when the target increases. Difficulty is an important method of regulating 10 minute block time and thus the precession of block creation through time. Every 2,016 blocks, roughly 2 weeks, the difficulty changes in the difficulty adjustment.
