OpenNode is honored to highlight one of our not-for-profit clients, the TSC Alliance. The TSC Alliance is now accepting Bitcoin donations to further its work towards a cure for Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) while improving the lives of those affected.
TSC is a rare, multi-system genetic disease that causes non-cancerous (benign) tumors to grow in the brain and on other vital organs such as the kidneys, heart, eyes, lungs, and skin. It usually affects the central nervous system and can result in a combination of symptoms including seizures, impaired intellectual development, autism, behavioral problems, skin abnormalities, and kidney disease.
Nearly one million people worldwide have TSC (50K in the US alone), which can occur in all races, all ethnic groups, and both genders. The severity of symptoms varies widely, from mild (allowing people to live independent, productive lives) to more severe symptoms that can affect everyday life and even be life-threatening. Awareness of the disease is lacking, and many cases remain undiagnosed for years or decades due to the relative obscurity of the disease and the mild form symptoms may take in some people.
