OpenNode is proud to announce that Substack has officially added Bitcoin payments to their platform!

With the integration of OpenNode’s API, Substack now supports subscription payments in Bitcoin. Writers on the Substack platform will have the ability to accept Bitcoin payments using the Lightning Network and on-chain as well.

Substack, founded in 2017 and based in San Francisco, is building a better future for writing. Substack’s online platform allows writers and other independent publishers to do their best work while generating income directly from their audiences, and on their own terms.

Substack provides publishing, payment, analytics, and design infrastructure, as well as other key services and a thriving community, to support independent publishers of subscription newsletters. Founded on the principle that what you read matters and good writing is valuable, Substack has received backing from Andreessen Horowitz, Y-Combinator, Fifty Years, and others.

Notably, Substack’s high-quality infrastructure hosts a ton of incredible Bitcoin content. According to Backlinko, 2 out of the top 5 paid business newsletters on Substack are focused on Bitcoin. Clearly, Substack and their users will benefit from support for Bitcoin as a way to pay and be paid. Some of the biggest names in the Bitcoin industry are on the Substack platform including Willy Woo and Dan Held.

“We’re excited to be working with OpenNode to enable independent publishers on Substack to accept crypto payments,” said Nick Inzucchi, product designer at Substack. “Having this option will give writers more flexibility and freedom, and we look forward to doing more in crypto as our users demand it.”

OpenNode is passionate about driving Bitcoin adoption, and with this partnership, we are excited to give Substack writers – starting with select publications – the ability to accept Bitcoin payments from subscribers around the world.

As we continue on the journey towards mass adoption of Bitcoin around the world, integration with Substack is one of our proudest achievements. We look forward to working with Substack to encourage Bitcoin adoption and empower people around the world to benefit from instant, lowest-cost Bitcoin payments.
